Abstract

The exacerbated growth of the population causes transformations on the Earth's surface and the main consequence of the joint action of the aforementioned factors refers to environmental degradation. This degradation occurs due to the growth of environmental crimes in Brazilian territory, mainly in the Amazon rainforest, which generate great damage to the environment and the population. This study aimed to identify environmental crimes from police reports produced by the Civil Police in the Integrated Public Security System of the State of Amazonas, from 2014 to 2107, in the city of Manaus, using the Geographic Information System (GIS). Based on the documentary records, the police records obtained contained latitude and longitude and, therefore, were processed in the Argcis software, which enabled the production of specific maps. This methodology made it possible to quantify environmental crimes, in addition to pointing out the highest concentrations of each event, the spatial location and the profile of the executing agent of the investigated crimes. In this way, when studying the various infractions determined in the Brazilian environmental crime law, we realize that in Manaus the socioeconomic conditions of the neighborhoods and, therefore, of their residents are not determining agents for the execution of such crimes, since they are practiced in peripheral and wealthy neighborhoods. In addition, the registration rates of crimes against nature are decreasing, despite a small variation in the last two years.
