Abstract

The environmental health of cities can be assessed through indicators. Among the tools used for this assessment is the Environmental Health Index (ISA), capable of measuring the health of any location. In this context, this study aimed to calculate the ISA of Cianorte/PR and Umuarama/PR. In addition, there was the purpose of comparing the results obtained with the respective values of the Municipal Human Development Index (IDHM) for each municipality. The ISA calculation was adapted from existing bibliographies. The ISA results for Cianorte/PR was 0.837 and for Umuarama/PR it was
0.855, indicating that the cities have acceptable healthiness. These results were similar, confirming that the municipalities surveyed have similar characteristics, already indicated by their close MHDI values (0.755 and 0.761 for Cianorte and Umuarama, respectively).
