This study sought to analyze the scenario of public contracts in Brazil between the years 2018 to 2021 and their respective sustainable practices, valued by the principle of the economy of public accounts, with a view to the conscious use of available resources. For this, the research was directed to signal the costs of the bidding processes and demonstrate the deficits and/or inefficiencies of the processes managed by the public machine, in addition to demystifying pre-established paradigms in society on the form of public procurement. Bibliographic research was carried out using materials previously published in books, articles, dissertations, theses and on official websites of the federal government and websites specialized in transparency. It is worth mentioning that, in terms of number of contracts, the state of Rio de Janeiro stands out, but in terms of monetary volume, the Federal District occupies the first position compared to other Brazilian states in bidding contracts.
