The present study presents a study carried out with children inserted in a host institution in the city of Rio Grande / RS, in which we sought to understand the perceptions of these subjects about the family, institution and school microsystems. As a theoretical-methodological contribution, the bioecological theory of human development was used, as well as the ecological insertion and research with children. The analysis of the data showed that children in foster care give new meaning to their family ties and feel that they are experiencing a little stimulating routine in institutions (foster care and school).
