Abstract

This text aims to discuss aspects related to the education of people with disability in Brazil. It highlights historical, social, and political data that were significant for the education of this population to become a public policy, despite the numerous challenges and contradictions faced. Hence, intertwining education, disability, and social commitment, as proposed in this dossier, is a way of underlining that the education of people with disability demands a continuous involvement of political actors and Brazilian society so as to not have any setbacks but advances nationally, in regards to what has been achieved over the decades. The articles that assemble the dossier are presented, emphasizing their connection with the indicated theme.
