The indicators of sustainability in organizations aim to measure in the environmental, social and economic dimensions. This work evaluated the sustainability of a charcoal company production in the semiarid of Paraíba state. The Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE) was applied. This indicator has four criteria: policy, management, performance and legal compliance. From the analysis carried out, it was concluded that the ISE application was presented in the company's sustainability assessment, seeking to evaluate as sustainable and innovative practices for the coal industry. The results revealed that the company considers the practice of environmental actions to be important, but not as fully practiced and yet we have not shown interest in knowing as actions practiced by the companies whose indexes are higher with in the ISE parameters. Despite a company known about the subject and the environmentalpractices applied to the sector, there is a significant practice in the application of practices. It was also noted that the main objective of the few actions carried out by the organization is focused on legal compliance and/or reduction of expenses, both as a result of resource savings.
