Stakeholders pressure companies to assume environmental responsibility. In this sense, environmental management and certification become a differential in building a positive business image. Thus, the present work aims to analyze the adoption of environmental certification as a business strategy in solid waste management and disposal companies. Therefore, a case study was carried out in two companies in Vale dos Sinos/RS, whose data were collected through research on institutional websites and social media of the analyzed companies, in addition to the application of a questionnaire with open questions about the Environmental Management System (SGA) and certification. The results show that companies perceive the SGA and ISO 14001 certification as being of great importance for the recognition of the enterprise in the market, among the strategies for adopting the certification are brand recognition, customer prospecting and market competitiveness.Downloads
