SUSTAINABILITY AND SOCIAL INNOVATION: THE GARBAGE THAT CREATES OPPORTUNITIES

The demands of the consumer society, allied to regulatores aspects of the market, means that many organizations face difficulties with the disposal of obsolete products, specifically electronic products. However, what is difficult for one organization may represent opportunities for other, for solving a difficulty allows the adoption of new management practices that integrate concepts of sustainability and social innovation can lead to the emergence of new businesses, generating inclusive service broader needs of society. In this context, this article consists of a case study in the Democratization of Information Committee in Santa Catarina (CDISC) and aimed to analyze the projects deployed from the recycling of e-waste from various partner institutions, intending to further identify the connections between the organization's practices to the theories of social innovation and sustainable development. Data collection was conducted from 09.12.2013 to 15.02.2014, through documentary research and semi-structured interview with the CEO of the organization. Data were analyzed by interpretatativas techniques and key results provide insight into the opportunities created by e-waste recycling and that there is a strong connection between organizational practices and theories of social and sustainable development innovation, especially as it relates to adoption of the tripod sustainability
