The objective of the text is to answer questions about the delineation of a possible scientific status of Physical Education; about its nature in the context of pedagogical theories and/or professional fields; and about its specificity in the school. We did this by delimiting the responses to the contributions of Historical-Cultural theory, Historical-Critical pedagogy and the Critical-overcoming approach approach in the teaching of Physical Education. This option arises from the theoretical accumulation developed from the Research Groups articulated by LEPEL/FACED/UFBA and, from the formation of masters and doctors who contributed to the development of a Marxist-based theory.
