This paper investigates the interconnections among experience, theory and practice, which are comprised in the so-called university classroom pedagogical competence. The objective is to contribute to the discussion about the interrelation between teaching and learning, prioritizing the relationship between pedagogical and epistemological, bearing in mind the hypothesis that every practice made at the classroom is supported epistemologically in a particular conception, belief and values. The crucial aspect of higher education is linked to adult education. Therefore, teaching and learning relations at this educational level differ from a pedagogy focused on children and adolescents. Academic competence is a process to be built on a daily basis continuously, facing the challenge of overcoming the traditional teaching model.
