Abstract

This paper aims to discuss the implementation process of the course Gender and Diversity in School in the Brazilian State of Santa Catarina and its implication in the ongoing training of public education professionals for issues, such as gender, sexuality, ethno-racial relationships and sexual orientation, as well as to reflect its possible contributions to pedagogical planning of teachers. This qualitative and quantitative study was conducted during two years of postdoctoral research. Results indicate that the course was important for teachers’ awareness of these topics. It was also found that there is a demand for follow-up strategies in the implementation of projects and activities addressing gender, sexuality, sexual orientation and ethno-racial relations in everyday school life involving colleagues, students and the wider school community.
