This article examines life paths of young black women who entered by the quota system at the University of Brasilia, as well as their experiences related to gender discrimination and ethnic-racial prejudice, stereotypes and ways of coping. Starting at narrative interviews conducted with students of Law and Education we observed that the family, school, and university produce and reproduce racism built throughout history. Given this, some young people respond with apathy; however, others are combative. The entry in the university at the same time increased the prospects for the professional future, and also revealed situations of racism existing in the institution. This study provides insights to the discussion on the implementation of quota policies in Brazil, which are becoming increasingly able to repair historic inequalities.
