This paper aims to discuss, among theoretical aspects, the state of the art of scientific literature on the subject and the practical aspects exemplified in a case study: the continuing training in service by professors working in Early Childhood Education. It is noticed that, from the moment in which become legally assumed by education departments, this stage of Basic Education and their agents cause concern for managers regarding to the initial and continued training in service; this concern is externalized in curricular references, official documents and policies of government. However, according to the data collected in the empirical field of a case study, there is a way to go to be effective. This reflection is significant in order to assist the development of knowledge about school practices and to shorthand of a professorial habitus of early Childhood Education.
