Solid waste is one of the major problems faced by society and one of the ways to minimize environmental impacts, in addition to complying with the corresponding legislation, is to sensitize the population through Environmental Education. Therefore, it is necessary to diagnose the environmental perception of the target public, aiming to establish the parameters to be developed. This study analyzed the perception of residents of the Ouro Verde neighborhood, in the municipality of Nova Olímpia – MT, in relation to urban solid waste (USW), constituting a qualitative and quantitative study, using a semi-structured survey as a data collection instrument. The results showed an unsatisfactory level of environmental perception due to the lack of knowledge about USW, demonstrating the need for actions aimed at educational issues based on the tripod of sustainability, which involves economic, environmental and social reflexes, as well as the demand for adequacy actions of waste management by the municipal government.
