The development of an appropriate environment depends on the implementation of integrated management of water resources, as well as the proper functioning of environmental legislation and organizational participation of society. Thus, this article aimed to perform a critical analysis of the management of water resources, focusing on the uses of water in irrigated agriculture from the perspective of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 6, which deals with Drinking Water and Sanitation. A bibliographical research was carried out on the scientific bases and in the official documents on this theme. The results showed that there were advances in the water resources management, especially considering the legalities instruments of Brazil. However, many items still need to be implemented due to the unfulfilled gap in integrating the master plans. There is an inequality in the service of regions, in the water supply and sanitation services, so it is urgent to align public policies with the goals of SDG-6.
