Abstract

The increase in attention to the environment has shown significant changes, especially with regard to the negative environmental impacts caused by man and his activities, mainly in the civil construction sector. With this scenario, the approach of sustainable construction and certification issues among civil construction professionals should be considered, thinking about the attempt to encourage the creation and implementation of new measures for sustainable development. Based on this assumption, this work seeks to verify, from the perception of architects and civil engineers in the city of Balsas-MA, aspects related to sustainable construction and certification in order to raise questions among these professionals, verify the main obstacles faced in the adoption of sustainable practices in the city, as well as analyzing and recommending measures to encourage this practice. For that, an online questionnaire was developed and applied among professionals, after obtaining the results, they were tabulated and used for analysis from the generation of tables and graphs. Through verification, it was possible to perceive that the vast majority of architects and civil engineers in the city consider the subject important in the sector, in addition, they studied in their graduations and researched about it. However, a considerable percentage of these professionals stated that they did not know of any certification or sustainability seal for civil construction, none of them developed and/or executed a sustainable project with certification and only a small percentage ever propose sustainable solutions to their clients in their projects. For the city's engineers and architects, the main obstacles to the adoption and practice of sustainability in the sector are the lack of environmental awareness of consumers and businessmen and the lack of incentives to promote sustainability, the latter being confirmed by the vast majority. Therefore, this analysis shows the need to create incentive measures in the city, such as: practices of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aimed at the sector, tax incentives, discounts on issuing documents for sustainable buildings, preference for sustainable projects in bidding, encouraging the opening of companies in the field of sustainable materials and reuse of solid waste, creation of a solid waste sorting center and creation of a municipal certification.
