Abstract

ABSTRACT: The purpose of this article is to analyse the importance of the basic sanitation for humans, as well as its development over the centuries. The history of the struggle of man for potable water and his concern for basic sanitations was investigated, from ancient civilizations, passing through the Middle and Contemporary Ages, with emphasis on basic sanitation on the History of Brazil. The study of basic sanitation in Brasil starts from its colony period, studying all the facts that contributed for the development of laws and agencies responsible for the health and basic sanitation in our country. Throughout the article, after the historical analysis, we seek to conceptualize what is basic sanitation these days, as well as expose the current legislation. This article is relevant to study the history of basic sanitation and it alerts us to the problems that the lack of sanitation basics has already created in mankind.
