We are particularly interested in linking critical thinking to specific fields of knowledge and, from the field of didactics, we propose that its traditional objects of study referring to teaching and learning be mediations for training in critical thinking. These theoretical positions lead us to present a model for the development of domain-specific critical thinking, in which four dimensions interact synergistically: metacognition, uses of language and argumentation, emotions-motivations, and problem solving and decision making. The constructed model conceptually describes each of the dimensions and shows, in turn, the relationships that are established between them and their internal dynamics, in order to contribute to the development of critical thinking in specific fields of knowledge, the central object of study of contemporary science teaching.
