Is the brevity a distinctive element of a text for children in children’s literature? Does it have a tradition in literary history? Is it a negative feature today considering literary education? Can it also be an aesthetic value? This article deals with these topics but emphasizes the relevance of studying brevity in narrative texts for children. Consequently it analyses the works of a pair of important Portuguese writers, coming from two different generations: Mário Castrim and Álvaro Magalhães. They both have published very short stories and micro-stories for children, between the 60s and the 80s of the 20th century. The specific traits of their production are pointed out here.Downloads
