The article analyzes the responses the Federal University of Bahia has been giving to the problem of inequality of access to higher education in the state of Bahia since the implementation of the quota policy, with reference to the broader context of inequalities in Brazil. The article was based on the first results of the work performed under the Interuniversity Program Equity and Social Cohesion sponsored by the Ibero American Politics Research and Education - RIAIPE3, funded by the European Union. The study concludes that it is necessary to go beyond the implementation of policies that guarantee access to higher education for excluded groups, highlighting the need to establish policies that promote actions aimed at cultural change to overcome the veiled discrimination that are present in the relationships established in within the University and that reflect those practiced in society as a whole.Downloads
