The objective of this work was to characterize the main types and concentration of animals by livestock and total livestock production in the Rio Doce (RN) basin. The official data were stored in BDG and processed in GIS. To characterize the concentration of livestock production by type and in general, idw was interpolated. The cattle herd was predominant in the basin, in the central side and at the source of the Mute River, western portion of the basin, followed by galináceos, in the northcentral, pigs, in the central-south and equines, further southwest. The integrated analysis of the four creations shows a concentration of livestock production in the central-eastern part of the basin, influenced by bovine and galinaceous farms. This area is located less than ten kilometers upstream of the Extremoz Lagoon, the main freshwater reservoir of the watershed, and which contributes to the water supply of the municipality of Natal.
