Inclusion and diversity policy

The Revista de Direito da Faculdade Guanambi encourages the use of inclusive language in the writing of scientific articles, in order to promote inclusion and diversity. It is believed that language and science are agents of socialization that can reproduce or try to contribute to overcoming structural inequalities in society.

1. Published content must not claim or allude that one person is superior to another because of age, gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, culture, religion, sexual orientation, disability or health condition. It is even the imposition of the Brazilian Constitution of 1988 in its republican and equality principles.

2. Care must be taken to avoid the reproduction of stereotypes and partial visions of reality, influenced by structural inequalities in society. Avoid terms with negative connotations.

3. The adoption of gender-inclusive terminology is suggested, preferring the use of neutral terms (eg the court, instead of the judge; the technical defense, instead of the lawyer; the accused person, instead of the accused) or of both grammatical genders (eg the lawyer; the lawyer and the lawyer).

a) The use of both grammatical genres should be considered with the objectivity and intelligibility of the text, since the excessive use of this option can eventually impair its accuracy.

b) It is also possible to suppress the grammatical gender, when identification is unnecessary (eg specialists affirm, instead of “the” specialists affirm); or use collective terms (eg faculty instead of faculty; scientific community instead of scientists).

4. Avoid qualifying subjects, except when strictly necessary (eg, renowned teacher, respected scholar, etc.). Qualification of subjects by age, gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, culture, religion, sexual orientation, disability or health condition should be avoided, unless this qualification is indispensable for the understanding and development of the research.

5. Standardize the style of reference to authors and authors. If you choose a name and a surname, adopt equally in all cases.

It is recommended to consult the Inclusive Language Manual of the Brazilian Senate; FRANCO, Paki Venegas; CERVERA, Julia Perez. Manual for the non-sexist use of language and LGBTI+ Communication Manual.
