Abstract

The objective of this work was to use vermiculite and aluminum hydroxide to produce polyurethane (PU) panels with mechanical resistance, flammability and thermal conductivity of different structures. The panels were prepared by a polycondensation reaction between isocyanate and polyol with the addition of aluminum hydroxide (ATH) and vermiculite. The composites showed deceleration of combustion until flame extinction during the flammability test (ABNT 9178-15) due to the presence of vermiculite and ATH. This study showed that the thermal insulation capacity was increased in relation to the PU foam, but the compressive strength of the composites did not meet the ABNT 8082 standard, however, this result does not compromise the use of these structures as wall cladding. The developed material can be used in civil construction as a thermal insulator.
