Brazil has a great importance on the mining scenario of the world with a diverse production and mines distributed nationwide, in which the processes of prospecting, exploration, exploitation and processing have a high potential of risks and impacts on the environment and on the generation of environmental liabilities. The closure of mining sites and the subsequent reuse of their areas represent a challenge for the mining industry and requires effective planning. Thus, the correct decommissioning of structures, the rehabilitation of degraded areas and the availability of legal assistance is of uttermost importance so that the impacts of the post-closure period can be mitigated through innovative solutions for a sustainable recovery of areas directly impacted by the project. Such solutions must seek to eliminate environmental liabilities and mainly aim to add value to new post-closure developments, not oly for the entrepreneurs, but also for the community, the government and other stakeholders.
