Abstract

This article presents data from research on shelters located in Manaus/AM. The objective of the study is to analyze aspects and data regarding the humanized care for refugees, as well as to understand the positive social impact on the population affected by disasters, highlighting relevant attributes of the shelter facilities and services available in the city for the regularization of documentation. The methodology applied considers the state of the art and documents on humanitarian issues, presenting the main definitions and categories of shelter, camp, shelter, refugee, migrant and homeless. Conducting studies on specific shelters, whether transit or temporary, as an alternative and immediate response to this social demand, allows for a case study analysis that can guide and support future decisions for similar cases. The results portray the importance of prior planning of reception spaces for the refugee population so that they have dignified and humanized care. Therefore, the work makes a reading of the reality of the Amazonian capital in the face of the reception response to refugees, observing social aspects, respect for cultural diversity and planning of transit or temporary physical space.
