A corporeidade da intérprete de libras na percepção dos sentidos produzida por interlocutores surdos

Abstract

The theoretical references specialized in the deafness area are substantial to approach the importance of the Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS) as a linguistic phenomenon. However, in this research, we looked for a reference on the materiality of the body. From this perspective, this work focused specifically on the use of the “non-manual expressions” to produce meanings. It aims at the dialogue between the interpretation and the materiality of the body of the LIBRAS interpreter, in other words, to observe the interpretation beyond the production supported by a dualist and technicist body, but for the “untold”. For this purpose, five interpreters were recorded and analyzed by six deaf individuals, whose analysis raised two categories: the facial and bodily expressions and the interpretation of the context of the story. With contributions of the Merleau-Ponty’s work, among other authors, the final results pointed to the fact that an adequate use of the non-manual expressions and grammar knowledge not necessarily produce a speaking body. The interpreter must evidence, when interpreting the sign language, emotion, clarity and meaning, that is, a materiality of the body as a part of the production of the meaning for the deaf individuals.
