Abstract

The article explores the conception of the subject in philosophical modernity in its relation to the scientific discourse on disability and its consequences for school inclusion. Contemporary perspectives on inclusive education point to the need to question the modern and Eurocentric foundations of exclusion and the disregard of intersectional aspects in the analysis of the subjects targeted by policies. The persistence of an understanding disconnected from cultural, social and political aspects in the consideration of the subjectivity of people with disabilities shows a field colonized by an ideal of the subject with a modern Enlightenment basis, which contributes to the perpetuation of stigmatizing discourses based on the notion of abnormality.
