Abstract

We present the relations between the death instinct and cultural influences, from the psychoanalytic perspective of Kultur as an alteritary irruption that starts the psychism. We call upon the aesthetic perspective of Mikhail Bakhtin as a bias towards a reading of the psychoanalytic construct. As we understand the death drive as a mechanism for creative maintenance of otherness which influences production and culture, artistic creation is proposed as a gift of civilization, an aesthetic aspect of civilization's discontents.
