The present work aims to analyze the discursive functioning of an image of a black child tattooed on the body of a white person. The case gained attention after the child's family reported the unauthorized use of the boy's photograph in the tattoo. The analysis is developed through the theoretical approach of Materialist Analysis of Discourse, addressing issues of body and race in the relationship between the artistic and the legal-political domains. By understanding the body as discursive materiality, we comprehend that the functioning of the tattoo in the axis of meaning-making materializes contradictions between discursive fields, whose determination can be observed through raciality.
