Abstract

This article analyzes art of the grotesque and its impacts and relevance in the
constitution of collective memories through the 1964 television series, The Addams Family.
The production inspires by macabre cartoons created by Charles Addams. As a
methodological framework the study uses a qualitative approach of the descriptive type
through the case study technique. The object of the analysis delimited is the 1964 television
series. The results show that the series characters fit into the grotesque theory and form
collective memories. The genre is successful by having a deep effect on individuals through
television. The series allows the telespectator to laugh at the terrifying and see the world
from a new point of view.
