THE DISCURSIVE PLAY BETWEEN LITERATURE AND PHOTOGRAPHY IN MÃO NA LATA E BERRO D’ÁGUA

Abstract

This article aims to present an analysis of the intertextuality and discursive play between literature and photography present in the photobook Mão na Lata e Berro D’Água, a photo essay produced in 2006 by a group of teenagers from Favela da Maré, organized by photographer Tatiana Altberg and based on the work of Jorge Amado entitled A morte e a morte de Quincas Berro D’Água (The double death of Quincas Water-Bray). The photobook brings together text and image, word and photography, in a reinterpretation of the memories of the character Quincas and the dream universe present in the original narrative, represented by the plastic of pinhole photographs, a technique chosen by the group for this reinterpretation. For this analysis, our considerations are theoretically grounded on authors who discuss the hybridization of contemporary arts (Brizuela, 2014) and intertextuality (Fiorin, 2016, Nitrini, 2015 and Reis, 2003), in order to identify the relationship between text and image in the photobook Mão na Lata e Berro D’Água.

    Mestre em Processos e Manifestações Culturais na Universidade Feevale. Especialista em Docência Universitária no Século XXI (2019) e Graduada em Fotografia (2019) pela mesma Universidade. Bolsista de aperfeiçoamento científico no Projeto de Pesquisa "Território Nômade: migrações, transições e deslocamentos na fotografia contemporânea".

    Doutora em Artes Visuais pela Universitat de Barcelona, Espanha (2013) e Bacharel em Artes Visuais, pela Universidad Tadeo Lozano, Bogotá, Colômbia (2000). Pesquisadora e professora da Universidade Feevale, RS, onde atua como professora permanente no PPG em Processos e Manifestações Culturais e nos cursos de graduação em Artes Visuais e Fotografia. Atualmente é pesquisadora convidada na Universidade de Murcia, Espanha.
