Although Brazil stands out in the production of eucalyptus (Eucalyptus grandis) there is still no fully sustainable destination for the residues, with the generation of millions of tons of residues from the wood sector. Thus, this work aims to produce hydrocarbons by hydrothermal carbonization of eucalyptus biomass for applications as biosorbents. The preparation of hydrocarbons was carried out in acidic (EUC-A) and basic (EUC-B) media at 200 or 240 °C, for 12 or 24 h. In this study, the hydrochars showed variable yield, the best condition being 200 °C and 24 h. It was verified the presence of functional groups corresponding to cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin in the bands of the ATR-FTIR spectra. The pH 11.0 presented the highest percentages of adsorption, being 95% for EUC-A hydrochars and 97% for EUC-B hydrochars. Thus, the hydrocarbonization of these residues has great potential for disposal as biosorbents, thus promoting greater sustainability in this sector.Downloads
