Abstract

The present work analyses the relation between discourse and context, focusing especially on the dimensions and importance of what is understood, in general, by social determinations of discourse. And because our main theoretical reference is Bakhtin, the reflection interprets the notion of context as social voices, which cause a dialogic encounter between the social and the polyphonic in its relation with the discourse of a given speaker. The social and polyphonic dimensions of discourse, in their turn, put at play what we understand as quotation, whose functioning is present in the text through repeated examples of irony.
