Sousândrade: tradition and modernity

Abstract

The present study aims at contributing for a better understanding of the role of Sousândrade within the limits of Brazilian Romanticism. In this study it is noted that his poetics not only perpetuates that movement’s libertarian and revolutionary spirit, as it may also be included in a titanic Romanticism. From such a rational romanticism, the poetics of Souzândrade may be understood as a precursor to modernity.
