Abstract

The purpose of this essay is to discuss the relationship between discourse research and language teaching and learning in the field of Applied Linguistics. To do so, in an overflow of the subject’s vision, I return to the master’s research “From the death of the caterpillar to the mosaic of the butterfly: polyphony in the literary text” (Rodrigues, 1992) to demonstrate that the research of enunciative heterogeneity in the literary discourse in short stories and chronicles was motivated by a question arising from the pedagogical practice: the place of the text in the Portuguese Language curricular component for teaching and learning classes of language practices, in this case, textual production. The essay is developed around two topics: the field of Applied Linguistics (historical moments and research objects) and the resumption of the master’s research to demonstrate the study of literary discourse motivated by language teaching and learning.
