Abstract

From the beginning of the twentieth century the Guarani moved from the interior of the southern forests of south America, where they had lived for centuries, towards the coast of Southern and Southeastern Brazil. They were in search of Yvy mara ey, a land without evil located near the sea. Recently this native people achieved greater visibility because of their struggle for land in these coastal regions, where they can continue to live according to their cultural values. This article proposes to: a) analyze the myths which are still in circulation among all the Mbya-guarani peoples along the Brazilian coast;  b) show how mythology can justify and also guide practices through the study of myths, the movements of the Guarani population, and action theories.
