Abstract

This work aims to examine, under the light of the move analysis proposed by Swales (1990), the rhetorical strategies mobilized in the conclusion section of articles in the field of Linguistics. For the study, of an exploratory character, ten articles published in Brazilian journals were selected, whose conclusive sections were submitted to the analysis of rhetorical movements and steps, based on the model presented by Cotos, Huffman and Link (2015). As a result, recurrent strategies for resuming the objectives, methods, results, contributions, and implications of the research were found, along with possible suggestions for new studies. However, the resumption of objectives or methods as a way of starting the section constitutes one of the most visible points at which the texts move away from the analysis model, ratifying the flexibility inherent to the genre, within the limits of the established conventions of the academic community.
