The incidence of discourse genre concept in D. Maingueneau’s work

Abstract

This article discusses the incidence of discourse genre concept in D. Maingueneau’s work. For this purpose, data was collected comprising his books, published in Brazil in the last decades. The analysis intends to answer the following questions: to what extent the style level, as which appears in Discourse Genres, can be related to the concepts of scenography and ethos as proposed by the analyst? Can the division between conversational genres and institutional ones, proposed by Maingueneau, be linked to that by Bakhtin between primary and secondary genres? The results show connecting points, but also that specificities should be taken into account.
