Abstract

The Innovation is in an emerging topic, being exploited widely in the academic realm. In order to expand knowledge on the scientific production related to innovation, this study aimed to examine the scientific publications related to the theme in the annals of the Association of Graduate Programs in Business Administration - EnANPAD and journals: Journal of Contemporary Administration (RAC), Brazilian Administration Review (BAR) and RAC - Eletrônica, in the period 1997 to 2010. To do so, using innovation as a keyword, we sought articles related to term, resulting in two hundred and six (206) articles, one hundred sixty (160) linked to EnANPAD forty-six (46) to journals. Among the results, there was a considerable increase in publications since 2006. The theme was present in all the years analyzed in EnANPAD and most publications focused on the RAC with thirty-four (34) articles, followed by the BAR with seven (7) and RAC electronics with five (5). The articles have analyzed up to six (6) authors. The institutions that stood out were: the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, Mackenzie Presbyterian University, the University of Bahia, São Paulo University and the University of Brasilia. The articles reviewed are mostly empirical, predominantly qualitative approach, exploratory, using case study method and are related mainly to the private sector with regard to the organizational sphere discussed in publications. In this sense, it is evident the importance of innovation as a strategic tool for organizational competitiveness.
