Abstract

Motivated by research that aims to study the performance evaluation of higher education institutions, this paper presents a procedure to select relevant articles on the topic, published between the years 2003 and 2013, in order to compose the core of a referential literature on the topic in question. The process enabled us to identify 430 relevant articles and aligned with the research topic in a worldwide database. Besides the selection of articles, this paper carries out a bibliometric analysis of this portfolio and describes statistically selected for the portfolio, the most relevant articles, authors and journals that published more on the topic of performance evaluation of higher education institutions. With the results, academics and practitioners can develop their theoretical frameworks on articles, authors and journals that stand out in this area of ??research evaluating the performance of higher education institutions.
