Abstract

The article presents a method for calculating CO2 emissions based on fuel consumption in road freight transport, through a single case study and a conceptual review of literature approach to identify the different existing calculation methods. The method selection took into account: ease of use, the number of variables needed for the calculation and the existence of information regarding emission factors. The results indicated a fleet’s CO2 emission rate of 1,643 tons/year with the use of S-10 biodiesel, indicating a reduction of 10.5% in relation to the total CO2 emission of the S-500 diesel. The goal of this article is to present a way to select a practical method for calculating CO2 emission based on fuel consumption for road freight transport companies.
