Knowledge of Health courses about integrative and complementary practices

Objective: to know what academics in health courses understand by integrative and complementary practices. Method: descriptive exploratory research of qualitative character, developed with 31 undergraduate students in the health area of a private higher education institution, located in the central region of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Results: from the data analysis it was possible to construction of four categories, namely: integrative and complementary practices: complement of knowledge and graduation; Integrative and complementary practices: interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary activity and multiprofessional care; Integrative and complementary practices focused on comprehensive care; Understanding of integrative and complementary practices as a preventive process for diseases and conditions. Final considerations: a research shows different types of perceptions about integrative and complementary practices, highlighting the need to insert these therapies in the teaching process of health courses, both in theory and in practice.
