Abstract

Introduction: Auriculotherapy is an alternative treatment for anxiety and stress. This age-old therapy has proven to be quite effective in healing the consequences of stress and pain. Objective: To analyze the effects of auriculotherapy for the treatment of pain and stress in middle-aged working women in a preliminary study. Methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive and quantitative pilot study was carried out in which 20 women aged 20-50 were recruited. Participants were evaluated by 3 questionnaires before, during and after auriculotherapy treatment. This consisted of the application of mustard seeds in 3 specific points of the ear (Shenmen, Kidney and Cerebral Trunk), for a period of 8 weeks. Results: A significant decrease in the stress score (p <0.05) and a significant decrease in pain (p <0.05) were observed after treatment at 4 weeks and 8 weeks compared to before the intervention. Conclusions: Through this study, auriculotherapy has been shown to reduce pain and stress when evaluated in middle-aged working women.
