Acupuncture in the treatment of neck pain: na integrative review of study

Abstract

Introduction: Neck pain is a clinical condition characterized by pain in the back or posterior lateral neck re¬gion, which may be local or radiating to the arms in certain corresponding dermatomes. In this sense, current research indicates that the use of acupuncture in the rehabilitation process has as high efficiency. Acupuncture is now widely used in the treatment arsenal of various professionals due to its excellent results. Objective: In this, the work has as objective to identify in literature the usual treatments for neck pain through acupuncture, as well as raising the most common protocols in the treatment of neck pain according to traditional Chinese medicine. Materials and methods: This research was based on integrative review methodology presenting as a method that provides synthesis of knowledge and the incorporation of the applicability of results of significant studies in practice. Results and discussion: From the searches carried out in databases (PubMed, MEDLINE, LILACS and SCOPUS search engine) found a total of 302 articles and 74 articles in PubMed / MEDLINE and 228 articles in Scopus search engine. In LILACS no articles were found by applying the descriptors. Using the exclusion criteria, there was a reduction in the total number of items to 10. Conclusion: Based on the results of found and analyzed studies, we conclude that addition of acupuncture and its resources adjuvants such as moxibustion, electroacupuncture and the ventosaterapia be well tolerated by patients.
