Auriculatherapy effectiveness in treatment of stress and Burnout Syndrome in university teachers

Abstract

Introduction: Teaching is a profession with high incidence of elements that lead to stress. The constant and intense involvement with people for a long period influences in the maintenance and chronicity of the mani¬festation of the signs and symptoms, characterizing the Burnout Syndrome (BS). Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of auricular as treatment in academics who were characterized states of stress and burnout syndrome (SB). Methods: It was conducted an experimental study of longitudinal quantita¬tive and qualitative character. Participants (n = 14) were selected after screening that was to include criteria to identify some level of stress, therefore, used the Perceived Stress Scale at Work (EEPT) and the Inventory Maslach for evaluation of SB. The intervention used technique was the auricular cybernetic, with one-week interval between sessions. Results: There was a predominance of women (71.43%) and married individuals (64.29%), with 6 years of teaching. Stress levels have been identified in the entire sample. The SB in its initial phase was present in 50% of the sample, with a moderate level of stress and high levels of despersonificação, however, all reported satisfaction with the profession. The age group of younger individuals showed significant association with the initial frame of SB (p <0.001) and the possibility of development got individuals over 40 years of age (p <0.001). Conclusion: Ear proved to be an intervention effectively means (p = 0.054) for the treatment of signs and symptoms related to stress and SB.
