Abstract

This research results from the master's thesis presented at the Postgraduate Program in Education in Science and Mathematics (PPGECIMAT), in the research line Teaching and Learning in Science and Mathematics, at the Universidade Franciscana (UFN). The general objective was to investigate the perception of undergraduates about the practical activities implemented in basic education in public and accredited schools. The research used a mixed qualitative and quantitative approach, of a descriptive analytical nature. An online questionnaire, a Likert scale, and a semi-structured interview were used for data collection. Data were collected and analyzed using Statistical Implicative Analysis (ASI). The results indicate that teachers advocate that practical activities provide opportunities for the construction of new knowledge, the development of individual and collective skills, the understanding of everyday phenomena and teacher-student interaction. There is evidence of the need for investment in student ownership, knowledge construction, school infrastructure, and the encouragement of in-service training and appreciation of teachers' work.
